Interview with Avishek Gupta
Dear Readers,
Today, we have young and energetic writer Avishek Gupta with us. Let us talk about his journey and stories about life.
Can you please introduce yourself to the world of literature? – I am a two-book-old author, whom you can still call a beginner in this field. I have published a couple of short story collections till date. One of them is an ebook and the other one is a paperback. I plan to publish my debut novel next.
When did you start writing? – I began writing in English when I was in college. Before that, starting from my childhood, I used to write in my mother tongue, Bengali. I have written poems, articles, short stories and reviews for various newspapers, websites and corporate newsletters over the years.
When you published first? – I published my short story collection That Stupid Bug Called Love through Kindle Direct Publishing on April, 2016. It was an ebook. My first paperback, 15/1 Story Avenue, a short story collection again, was published by Author Paradise Publishers on January, 2017.
Describe Avishek in day to day life? – I am working in the software industry for more than 10 years and I am a father of a two year old. So, in a nutshell, I am a busy professional and a family man, who also finds some time to tell the world his own stories.
What are your hobbies apart from writing? – Reading, movies, music, quizzing and computer gaming are my primary hobbies, other than writing.
Tell us more about your book? – 15/1 Story Avenue is a collection of 15 short stories. The stories are of varying genre about people in different walks of life. There are love stories, thrillers and travelogues, all inside one cover. So, readers would find something or the other in this book that might be of interest to them.
How do you manage your writing time? – I have to juggle between my job, my family and my writing, so it’s tough. I normally try to jot down an idea whenever it comes to me, and then elaborate later when I manage some time. My family supports me a lot to allow me some precious “me-time.”
Your favorite writer and why? – I have a lot of favorites, but if I have to take one name, I will go for Jeffrey Archer, for his power of keeping the readers hooked on until the very end.
What are your upcoming projects? – Coming up next is my debut novel, which is a magic realism story. The manuscript is going through the final round of editing at the moment.
Any tips to the upcoming young generation. – The world wants to hear a good story, so put your heart into what you are writing. Don’t be in a hurry to get published, rather focus on working hard to improve your writing.
Avishek in one sentence. – “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.”
