Today, we have Shankar Kashyap with us on board. He has expressed his views. Let’s together read the same.
Can you please introduce yourself to the world of literature?
I am a full time orthopaedic surgeon practicing in the UK with deep interest in writing. I have published numerous scientific articles in peer reviewed journals.
When did you start writing?
I started writing about ten eight years ago when my life was turned upside down by some uncouth individuals and a corrupt bureaucracy. I started writing my experience with the episode to purge myself of the enormous stress the episode caused.
When you published first?
The outcome of that was “A Kangaroo Court: A triumph of Mediocrity” published in 2011.
Describe Shankar in day to day life?
I am a full time consultant orthopaedic surgeon with specialist interest in Hip and Knee replacements. I am a family man with three grown up children.
What are your hobbies apart from writing?
My hobbies are water colour painting and wood working. I still play summer cricket and enjoy skiing in the Italian alps.
Tell us more about your book ?
My current books are historical fiction based on Harappan civilisation and Rigveda. The premise of the books is that the Harappans composed Rigveda. I have used the events and characters within the huge Rigvedic corpus and reproduced the stories in the Harappan settlements. I have used extensive archaeological evidence and literature evidence to create a story line which is easily readable. My aim is to bring the ancient Indian civilisation and culture to the masses and make it as familiar as the ancient history of Rome, Greece or Mespotamian. It is a series of six books
How do you manage your writing time?
I dedicate a set amount of time every night for my books – which could be just some research or actual writing.
Your favorite writer and why?
I have several favourite authors. I particularly liked Christian Jacque who has brought Egyptian civilisation to life and in Kannada, Ta Ra Su who has brought out our history to the masses.
What are your upcoming projects ?
Harappa is a series of six books and first three have been published so far – The Lure of Soma, The Fall of Shuruppak and Dasharajna (The Battle of ten kings). The fourth book, Zarathustra:The battle of Varsagiras is the fourth one and based on the events in Books 1 and 10 of Rigveda. I have recently completed a crime thriller, The Retribution and should be out within the next few months.
Any tips to the upcoming young generation.
My tips to any budding authors out there – there is a book to be written within everyone. You only have let your imagination run riot and put it down on paper. Publishing books is extremely difficult, but not impossible. Read your work again and again and let someone else read and criticise too.
Shankar in one sentence.
Shankar is a simple man with raging imagination.
